Gilles Carle
Gilles Carle, OC, GOQ (* July 31, 1928 or 1929 in Maniwaki, † November 28, 2009 in Granby, Canada) was a Canadian filmmaker. In his four -decade career, he has directed over thirty feature films, shorts and documentaries directed and also worked as a screenwriter.
Life
Carle attended the École des Beaux-Arts and later the Ecole des arts graphiques in Montreal and studied from 1950 at the local university literature and social sciences. In addition, he worked as a critic for various magazines. From 1950 to 1960 he was with the CBC / Radio -Canada under contract and began there, for films to research and write.
In 1961 he made his first film, a documentary about Italian emigrants in Montréal, Dimanche d' Amérique. After another short documentary, presented the feature film La vie heureuse de Léopold Z. the first of a number of award-winning films dar. From 1966 to 1971 worked for Carle Onyx Productions until he founded his own company, Productions Carle -Lamy. In his last years he suffered from Parkinson's disease.
Prices
His first film prize went to Carle in 1965 with the Grand Prix du Cinéma Canadien; his last in 1989 with the Palme d'Or for his short film 50 ans. He was honored for his life's work with the Canadian Prix Jutra 2001.
