Gilles Peress

Gilles Peress (born 29 December 1946 in Neuilly, France) is an internationally important French Dokumentar-Fotograf/Bildreporter.

Training

Peress, who was born in 1946 in Neuilly, attended from 1966 to 1968, the Institut d' Etudes Politiques ( Studies in Political Science and Philosophy ), then to 1971, the University of Vincennes. Since 1970 he has devoted himself to photography and encounters in 1972 of the legendary photo agency Magnum Photos (1974 he is a member). 1984/85 he was the Vice Chairman in 1986 /87 and 1989-90 chairman. He is represented by the Business Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York. Peress was among others the renowned photographer for The New Yorker magazine and a Senior Researcher at Human Rights Center of the University of California at Berkeley.

High worldwide recognition Peress received by his emotional picture reports from numerous conflict zones, such as in Bosnia or the genocide in Rwanda.

In the days to November 9 In 1989 in Berlin, his series The Fall with around 68 large-format double photographs that Peress supplemented in 2004 as part of a special exhibition of visitors with personal comments, thoughts and memories and then for the first time as part of the anniversary 15 years fall of the wall as collective Einnerungsdokument German history published. The House of the history of the Federal Republic of Germany acquired its resulting from the special exhibition of 2004 Installation The Fall ( with support from the German Bank Foundation and Dieter Rosenkranz, Berlin).
