Gilles Savary

Gilles Savary ( born December 6, 1954 in Oradour -sur- Vayres, Haute- Vienne ) is a French politician. He was from 1999 until 2009 Member of the European Parliament and it is since 2012 Member of the National Assembly.

Savary graduated with a Masters in Economics, a DESS in regional planning and a DEA in urban and rural analysis. His political career began in 1982 as a consultant by Philippe Madrelle, the President of the Regional Council of Aquitaine region. In 1994 he was a candidate himself for a seat in the General Council of the department of Gironde, but failed. The following year, however, he managed to move into the city council of Bordeaux. In 1997 he was elected to the National Council of the Socialist Party. This was followed in 1998 elected to the Regional Council of Aquitaine, whose vice- president he was until 1999. This year, he moved to France a the European Parliament. In 2004 he was re-elected as such, and was also able to move into the General Council of the department of Gironde, to his vice president, he was elected the same year. After he resigned from the European Parliament in 2009, he joined the parliamentary elections in 2012 to the ninth constituency of the Gironde department and was elected to the National Assembly.
