Gillian Murphy

Gillian Murphy ( born 1979 ) is an American ballet dancer. She has held the status of a Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre.

Murphy grew up in Florence (South Carolina), where she began taking ballet lessons. She trained at the North Carolina School of the Arts at the Canadian ballerina Melissa Hayden.

In August 1996, the American Ballet Theatre took it as a dancer in the corps de ballet contract, she became a soloist in 1999, 2002 was followed by the appointment to Principal Dancer.

Murphy has almost all danced solo roles in the broad repertoire of the American Ballet Theatre, including a TV / DVD production of Swan Lake (role: Odette / Odile, 2005).

Since 2012 she is also Principal Guest Artist with the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
