Gill#Invertebrate gills
Tracheal gills are the typical respiratory organs of living aquatic insect larvae. As attachments to the abdomen ( for example, in damselflies ( Zygoptera ) ), the thorax, or even stored in the abdomen ( for example, dragonfly, ( Anisoptera ) ), they serve to increase the surface area for the closed tracheal system. The tracheal gills are formed by transformation from the cerci and the Terminalfilum.
