Gilserberg

Gilston is a community in the Schwalm -Eder district in Hesse, Germany.

Position and community structure

Gilston is the westernmost municipality in the Schwalm- Eder -Kreis, bordering the counties of Marburg -Biedenkopf and Waldeck- Frankenberg.

Districts

The community consists of eleven districts. In addition to the nucleus Gilston are the Appenhain, Heimbach, Itzenhain to the domain Bellnhausen, Lischeid, Moischeid, Sachsenhausen, Schönau, Schönstein, Sebbeterode and winter Scheid.

Geography

The municipal territory includes the location of the Rhine- Weser watershed Gilserberger Highlands. Its central part around the nucleus Gilston consists of a through which the upper reaches of the Gilsa plateau. The other side of the watershed located on the Wohra inflows Josbach and Heimbach drained southwestern districts Lischeid, Winter Scheid and Heimbach are the only places in the Schwalm -Eder -Kreis, which are in the catchment area of the Rhine. The southeastern part of the community with the hamlets of Sachsenhausen, Itzenhain, Bellnhausen and Appenhain is drained by the Katzenbach and the Wiera inflow Hard water for Schwalm out.

In the north of the district Schönstein the community extends into the basement Forest. There is located on the northwestern boundary of the municipality to Gemünden with the 585 m above sea level. In the nucleus Gilston is the southernmost point of the Natural Park basement Edersee. The districts Schönstein and Schönau lie within the boundaries of the park, Gilston and Moischeid on its border.

The Federal Highway 3, (60 km) (30 km) connects to the southwest, for example, Kassel in the north east of Marburg, runs through the community. Between the nucleus and the village of Gilston Lischeid they crossed the Rhine -Weser watershed.

Gilston is bordered to the northwest by the municipality of Haina ( Waldeck- Frankenberg ), in the north- east on the community Jesberg, in the southeast on the town Schwalm city (both in the Schwalm -Eder- Kreis), in the south on the town of Neustadt, on the southwest by the cities Stadtallendorf and Rauschenberg, and in the west on the community of Wohratal (all four in the district of Marburg -Biedenkopf ) and the city Gemünden ( Waldeck- Frankenberg ).

History

Gilston 1262 was first mentioned. On December 31, 1971, the places Gilston, Heimbach ( first mentioned in 1243 ), Lischeid ( 1251 ), Sachsenhausen ( 1224 ), Schönau ( 1264 ) and Winter Scheid ( 1231 ) merged to form the new municipality of Gilston. Due to its central location in Gilserberger highlands was Gilston seat of administration and namesake of the new community. On April 1, 1972 came Appenhain ( 1197 ) and Itzenhain ( 1197 ) with the incorporated in 1928 Bellnhausen added. On January 1, 1974, the incorporation of Moischeid ( 1252), Sebbeterode (1201 ) and Schönstein ( church planting 1843) followed.

Evangelical Church

For parish Sebbeterode include Gilston and Schönau, Parish Lischeid Heimbach, Winter Scheid, Sachsenhausen, and Itzenhain Appenhain. Schönstein and Moischeid are part of the parish Densberg.

Jewish Community

In Gilston was a Jewish community from the 18th century until after 1933., The maximum number of Jewish inhabitants was reached in 1900 with just over 70 people. A first synagogue was probably established at the beginning of the 19th century. A new synagogue was inaugurated on 12 January 1898. At the November pogrom of 1938 it was destroyed. At least four of the former Jewish residents of the community were murdered in extermination camps. At the Jewish community still remembers a small Jewish cemetery on the spot.

Policy

Mayor

On September 16, 2012 was elected with 53.4 % of the vote for mayor of Gilston Rainer Barth (independent). His only rival candidate was Lothar Dietrich of the SPD. The turnout was 79.3 %. On January 2, 2013 Barth took office.
