The Gimmlitz in Lichtenberg

The Gimmlitz is a 25 km long, right or eastern tributary of the Freiberger Mulde in Saxony, Germany.

Course

It rises on the edge of the forest of pottery forest not far from the 805 m high Schickel height between Hermsdorf / Erzgeb. and Holzhau at the county border and boundary of the Erzgebirge / Vogtland. Passing the Weicheltmühle and other water mills, the river meanders through the Gimmlitztal, flows around the castle Lichtenberg, feeds the dam and flows Lichtenberg Lichtenberg near the former water castle Lichtenberg in the Freiberger Mulde.

Flood

The adjacent locations of the Gimmlitz were affected by the flood of the century in 2002. Since it was feared that the dam Lichtenberg not withstand the pressure of the water, parts of the spatial light mountain were evacuated for a short time.
