Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy

Club Atlético Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy is a sports club from San Salvador de Jujuy, a town at the foot of the Andes in northwestern Argentina. Although translated the name means Gymnastics and Fencing Club, he is today best known for its football department. The first team plays in the Primera División, making it the most successful in the region.

History

The sporty rise of the football team of the club began in the 1960s. In 1965 he took part in an Argentine football championship for the first time. The eight participations to 1985, the greatest success was the 4th place in 1975. After the establishment of the modern league system in 1985, the club had to first go through a dry spell in which he relegated to the third division, the Torneo del Interior. In 1993 he rose to return to the Nacional B, and marched right through to the first division, in which he ascended by a sovereign won the second division championship in 1994. Until 2000, Gimnasia remained in the Primera División Clausura 1998 and reached the fourth place. 2005, the club again ascend and reached the Clausura 2006 is also the fourth place, which was the best finish to date. Today, the association has established itself as the only northern Argentina in La Liga.
