Ginevra di Scozia

Ginevra di Scozia is an opera by the German composer Johann Simon Mayr, which was written for the opening of the Teatro Nuovo, Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi today in Trieste on 21 April 1801. The libretto of the drama in two acts by Gaetano Rossi comes.

History

For the inauguration of the newly built opera house, a competition was announced, the Rossi and Mayr had won because of gambling in mythical times of English history opera. The subject came the romantic enthusiasm of England of the time, which had spread to Italy, opposed. Originally the opera should have been given already in 1800, but delays in the completion of the theater have delayed the performance for one year.

After the premiere was " Ginevra di Scozia " listed for thirty years, including in Vienna, conducted by Joseph Weigl.

Content

The opera takes place in St. Andrews Scotland in a fabulous time. Theme of the opera is a complicated love story between the four main characters, who do not come to each other because of widespread intrigue almost. At the end of the opera to find the pairs and the guilty will be given.
