Giocondo Albertolli

Giocondo Giuseppe Albertolli ( born July 24, 1742 in Bedano, † November 6, 1825 in Milan ) was a Swiss sculptor, draftsman and architect ornament.

Life

Giocondo Albertolli was born as the son of the architect Francesco Saverio and his wife Margherita De Giorgi on July 24, 1742 in Bedano. He received his first training in Aosta at the college. For a sculptor, draftsman and architect, he was trained from the age of eleven years at the Academy of Fine Arts under Giuseppe Peroni in Parma. Ten years he remained there and worked on stucco decorations in churches. He also created the figures of the triumphal arch of Ennemond -Alexandre Petitot, who also had great influence on Albertolli.

1770 finally was summoned Albertolli to Florence, where he was responsible for the decoration of the Villa of Poggio Imperiale. During this time he also took a trip to Rome and Naples. In 1774 he was awarded a contract to work at the Palazzo Reale in Milan. It was about the decoration of the government building, which Albertolli completed so that he got a lot of requests noble citizens in the subsequent period to decorate their villas. The government building was designed by Giuseppe Piermarini, who had called Albertolli and later worked with him. Together they shaped the architecture in Lombardy.

Albertolli 1775 was one of the founders of the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera. Knight of the Iron Crown, he was appointed in 1809 by Napoleon. He served as director and professor of ornamentation School of the Academy and wrote at this time four standard works of the creative education of his time, this place had to leave in 1812 due to an eye disease to his nephew, but after 37 years. Nevertheless, he was also now on as overseer of the competitions of the Academy. In 1807 he was also a member of the Commissione del Pubblico ornato called Beautification Commission, has been appointed, which he remained until 1814.

Albertolli had been married to Marta Caterina De Giorgi and had 15 children. Among other things, the son Raphael, who died in 1812 had, as an architect.
