Gioia Tauro

Gioia Tauro is an Italian commune in the province of Reggio Calabria with 19 213 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). She is best known for its container port.

Location and data

The neighboring municipalities are Palmi, Polistena, Rizziconi, Rosarno, San Ferdinando and Seminara.

The small town is located to the north entrance to the Strait of Messina centrally in the Mediterranean on the European mainland, at the tip of the Italian boot. A few kilometers away are Sicily and its port city of Messina.
