Giona (river)

The Giona is an approximately 13 km long river, which rises in the Swiss canton of Ticino and reached on the Italian territory Lake Maggiore. The source area is located at Monte Tamaro. The Giona flows mostly in the southwest and is tangent to the community Indemini. In Italy, the valley Valle Veddasca is the continuation of the river valley. For now runs the municipal boundary between Veddasca and Curiglia - Monteviasco along the Giona. On both sides of the estuary on a far advanced in Lake Maggiore alluvial fan is the village Maccagno.
