Giorgetto Giugiaro

Giorgio Giugiaro Giorgetto Giugiaro or ( born August 7, 1938 in Garessio ) is an Italian industrial designer. Among his most important creations include the style- design classic Lotus Esprit, Fiat Uno, Fiat Punto, Lancia Delta, Volkswagen Golf I and Audi 80, and in camera range, the Nikon F4.

Life

Giugiaro comes from an art -creating family and sought therefore to be an early artistic future. His grandfather Luigi created church paintings, and his father, Mario Giugiaro, worked only in the decorative and religious art, but then switched to oil painting.

During his stay in Turin he switched from studying art at evening classes for the technical design and developed a passion for sketching of automobiles. In June 1955 Giugiaro showed some of his designs at the annual degree show his course for technical drawing.

Dante Giacosa, technical director at Fiat, where she discovered the young talent and recruited at Giugiaro. Giugiaro went in September 1955 under the leadership of Fabio Luigi Rapi to Fiat, in the Department of Design Studies of special vehicles. In December 1959 he was appointed head of the " Bertone Styling Center". Giuseppe Bertone encouraged the young designers intensively and deed and was not disappointed. The years spent Giugiaro at him were formative for his education and allowed him to secure a place in the Turin designer scene.

At the age of 24 years Giugiaro designed the Simca 1000 coupe. His first large-scale product was the coupe version of the Alfa Romeo Sprint 2000/2600.

In November 1965, he joined the management of the Carrozzeria Ghia competitors where he was responsible for the styling center and the prototype department. The Maserati Ghibli and the De Tomaso Mangusta, both of which were presented at the Turin Motor Show, date from this period. For he Ghia et al developed the design studies Fiat 850 Vanessa (1960) and the Oldsmobile Toronado Thor (1967 ) and serial models Isuzu 117 Coupe (1966 ) and the Iso Fidia (1967). Although his time was very successful in business, he harbored a growing desire for independence.

On 7 February 1967, he founded his own industrial design firm that initially Italy Styling said. There he continued his work for Ghia initially on a freelance basis gone, but prepared for hitherto unexplored area before. Giugiaro willed to invest his professional and financial capital in a global challenge, a professional services company for the automotive industry, for this reason he named his company then into Italdesign and was self-employed.

Under the trademark Italdesign Giugiaro he designed since then more than 200 vehicles, some of which then also went into series production. Importance

Giugiaro is considered by many of his colleagues - thought to be the most influential automobile designers of the 20th century - among them Bruno Sacco, Harm Lagaay, Ercole Spada and Tom Tjaarda.
