Giorgi Latso
Giorgi Latso ( born April 15, 1978 in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR as Giorgi Lazabidse; Georgian გიორგი ლაცაბიძე ) is a Georgian- American pianist and composer.
Curriculum vitae
He began in the Old three years playing the piano. With five years Lazabidse began composing pieces first. The age of ten he played Beethoven and Grieg's piano concertos. He studied under the state Sarajishvili Conservatory in Tbilisi, at the Hanover University of Music, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Flora L. Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Among his teachers were Russudan Chodzava, Gerrit Zitterbart, Lazar Berman and Stewart Gordon.
Latso had numerous performances in master classes and concerts in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States of America. He was known for his performance of Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto in WUK cultural center in the Austrian press as "... a technically brilliant pianist filled with poignant lyricism and true profundity " celebrated. The England Rhinegold Classical Magazine called his recording of the Debussy Préludes as "... offered with exceptional imagination and rarely heard musical timbre ... "
Another of his early performances in Salzburg was part of a DVD documentary about Latso, which was produced by K- TV Austria.
Latso received numerous awards throughout his career. He also served as winners of the " International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation ", in the international competition for young pianists in Los Angeles and the German Marion Hedda Ilse Gräfin Dönhoff Foundation. Latso was honored with the DAAD scholarship, the Vladimir Spivakov scholarship, and a scholarship of Georgian President Shevardnadze.
In May 2010 he received his doctorate from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and received the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts.
Latso joined his concert debut at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in London. This "Cyber moment" for violin and piano was premiered his composition. In 2012, he appeared in the Berliner Philharmonie.
Latso has recorded a CD with all the piano - violin works of the Polish- German composer Ignatz Waghalter jointly with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Irmina Trynkos and Alexander Walker. In the December issue of the Luxembourg magazine Pizzicato (2012 ), she was awarded the coveted Supersonic Award from the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA ).
In 2012 Latso received an official invitation from the Vatican and Benedict XVI. for a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467, with the Vienna Philharmonic in the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica.
In January 2013 was appointed as a Steinway Artist Giorgi Latso in New York City.
Educational activities
Giorgi Latso taught from 2007 to 2010 at the University of Southern California, then became a professor of piano at the private Azusa Pacific University and has taught since 2011 at the Community College of Glendale ( California). Since autumn 2012 he has been Professor (piano) at the Prayner Conservatory and Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna.
From 2007 to 2010 he was president of the Music Teachers National Association in California. As Klavierpädage Lazabidse conducted master classes in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. and is a jury member of several national and international competitions. Many of his concert recordings were aired by American and European broadcasters.
Compositional work
Among other things, composed Latso 2006, the soundtrack to Twilight's Grace and the score Waltz fantasy from 2002, which was awarded at the International Film Festival in Bologna as the best film music.
Repertoire
Latso focuses primarily on the music of classicism and romanticism. He leads to the complete piano works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt and Claude Debussy. In recent years, Lazabidse has made a name for himself mainly as the historically - informed performance practice familiar interpreter of Chopin, which he presented in cyclic performances in several European cities. Lazabidse is one of the youngest pianists, all 24 of the Chopin Etudes and Preludes, as well as all 24 of the 12 Transcendental Etudes by Franz Liszt have performed and recorded live.
