Giorgi Targamadze

Giorgi Targamadze ( born November 22, 1973 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian journalist and politician of the Georgian Christian Democrats, whose leader he is. Targamadze of 1999-2003 was a deputy in the Parliament of Georgia.

Life and work

Targamadze was born on November 22, 1973 in Tbilisi, Georgia. From 1991-1999, he studied at the Tbilisi State University. He was elected to the party rebirth into Parliament in 1999, but he left the party in 2003 and devoted himself to journalism. In 2008 he founded the right-wing conservative Christian Democratic Movement of Georgia, which in 2008 8.7 per cent and six seats in erlang general election in parliament. He acted in this election as the leading candidate. In the local elections in Georgia, 2010, the Christian Democrats strengthened to 11.9 percent and were the second strongest, after the United National Movement of President Mikheil Saakashvili. In the parliamentary elections in 2012, when Targamadze again took the lead candidate, the party slipped to 2.0 percent and lost all the seats in Parliament. Targamadze was nominated by his party as its presidential candidate for the presidential elections in 2013, with 1.1 percent, it was the fifth- placed candidate under 23 competitions.

Targamadze is married and has two children.
