Giorgio Bambini

Giorgio Bambini ( born February 24, 1945 in La Spezia, Italy ) is an Italian former heavyweight boxer.

Career

His greatest achievement is winning the bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. With point victories against the representative of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dieter Renz and the Bulgarians Kiril Pandow he qualified for the semifinals, where he met the American George Foreman. Against Foreman but Bambini had no chance and lost by knockout in the second round.

Other successes as an amateur boxer were the victories in the Italian Championships 1965 - 1968, and the profit of the Mediterranean Games in 1967.

As a professional, he was fifteen times in the ring and went five times the winner. However Bambini fought against any well-known opponent so that he has little attention has been paid. After little more than two and a half years in professional business, he said goodbye to the sport of boxing.
