Giorgio Colli

Giorgio Colli ( * 1917 in Turin, † January 6, 1979 in Fiesole ) was an Italian philosopher, teacher, literary critic and translator, who began a critical edition of the works of Friedrich Nietzsche, together with his student and friend Mazzino Montinari.

Thirty years worked Giorgio Colli as a professor of history of ancient philosophy at the University of Pisa. His son Enrico Colli Colli organized the Institute.

" Enthusiazon de tus lelethe Pollus ", a quote from Plato's Phaedrus ( 249d ), was the motto of his thesis and also the motto of his life. That means in German: " ... but that he is thrilled that people do not notice " ( translation: Friedrich Schleiermacher ). This refers to one who lives constantly in a state of ecstasy and keep Eleusian which consequently most ( " hoi polloi " ) was crazy.
