Giorgos Kolokithas

Georgios Kolokithas (Greek Γεώργιος Κολοκυθάς; born November 2, 1945 in Greece, † March 2, 2013 in Athens ) was a Greek professional basketball player.

Career

His career began Kolokithas the Athenian club Sporting Athens, where he was until 1966 under contract. He then moved to Panathinaikos, where he was active until his career end of 1972. With Panathinaikos he won four championships and was in the years 1964, 1966 and 1967, the most successful basketball player of the Greek Cup, while he came to a total of 3529 points in his career.

In the European Cup with Panathinaikos in 1969 he reached the semi-finals in the European Cup Winners' Cup and 1972 the semi-finals in the European Champions Cup.

National

His debut with the Greek national team was Kolokithas during a friendly match against Romania on 20 November 1962. During the following nine years Kolokithas was an integral part of the Greek selection and took part in a total of three European Championships. His last game he gave in 90 international matches and scored 1807 points ( 20.1 average ) on 4 May 1971 by a match against Scotland. In the 111-72 victory Kolokithas scored 36 points.

At the European Championships 1967 (206 points, 22.9 in average) and 1969 ( 159 points, average 22.7 ) completed Kolokithas the tournaments each as the most successful basketball player from.
