Giottino

Giottino (* 1320-1330, according to Vasari in Florence in 1324; † after 1369 ) was an Italian painter from Florence. His real name was Tommaso (short: Maso ) di Stefano.

Giottinos father was himself a famous painter who guided his son to study the works of the great Giotto, to learn from them. As he leaned his style to the works of Giotto, Maso became known as Giottino ( ie less Giotto ) or as Giotto di Stefano or Giotto di Maestro Stefano.

The frescoes of the Holy Year in the Church of Santa Croce (Florence) are attributed to him, they show the legend of Pope Sylvester I.. Too frescoes in the church of San Remigio in Florence as well as a cycle of frescoes in the lower church of the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi originate possibly from him.

A large number of other works are attributed to him, even such as a marble statue, which stands on the Campanile of the Duomo in Florence.
