Giovanni Battista Cirri

Giovanni Battista cirri ( born October 1, 1724 in Forli, † June 11, 1808 ) was an Italian cellist and composer of the 18th century.

Life

Giovanni Battista cirri received his first music lessons by his brother Ignazio cirri (1711-1787), the organist at the Cathedral of Forli was. He then continued his studies with the most famous Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna. Cirri in 1759 became a member of the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica.

From 1760 worked cirri for about five years in Paris. There he published his first works, one of his symphonies was performed on April 5, 1763 at the Concert Spirituel, which was a special award.

In 1764 he settled in London, where he had a job as a chamber musician to the Duke of York. His first public appearance was in May 1764, when accompanying a violinist named Marcella. In 1780 he returned to Forli and assisted for a time his sick brother. 1782 had cirri as first cellist at the " Teatro dei Fiorentini " in Naples. In 1787 he succeeded his brother as Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Forli.
