Giovanni Buonaventura Viviani

Giovanni Buonaventura Viviani ( born July 15, 1638 Florence, Pistoia † in December 1692 ) was an Italian composer and violinist.

Life

Viviani was hired in 1656 as a violinist by the mediation of his relatives Antonio Maria Viviani (~ 1630-1683 ) in the court orchestra of Innsbruck. This was also in charge of the ensemble and chaplain. From 1672 Viviani was then the artistic director of the ensemble of the " imperial court music ". Reason for his early departure from the Habsburg service in 1676 was certainly the fact that after the death of Archduke Ferdinand Karl 1662 Innsbruck court music more and more, only played a secondary role. In the reign of the archduke in Innsbruck The first opera house north of the Alps was founded, which was under the direction of the then famous composer Antonio Cesti. Viviani left Austria and lived alternately in different Italian cities such as Venice, Rome, Naples, Milan and Florence as a violin soloist and composer. He was with his operas extremely successful. From 1687, he was Director of Music in Pistoia, where he probably died in 1692.
