Giovanni da Udine

Giovanni da Udine (* October 15, 1487 in Udine, northern Italy, † 1564 in Rome) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance. In Raphael's workshop, he was the specialist for grotesques and stucco.

Life

Giovanni received his education probably in Venice. 1516, he joined the workshop of Raphael, for whom he worked until his death. He took lots of of oil paintings of Raphael and was involved as well in the frescos and Stuckatierung of palaces such as the Villa Farnesina in Rome. He also worked on the design of the loggias in the Vatican Palace.

His work for Raphael was occasionally interrupted by jobs in Northern Italy. He worked in 1527 and 1534 as architect and decorator for locks of Spilimbergo and Colloredo in Friuli and was involved in the interior decoration of the Palazzo Grimani in Venice.
