Giovanni Domenico Santorini

Giovanni Domenico Santorini ( * June 6, 1681, † May 7, 1737 ) was an Italian anatomist.

He received his doctorate as a doctor in 1701 in Pisa. He is known for his sections on the human body today.

From 1705 to 1728 he demonstrated the section of the human body in Venice. His best work was written in 1724, the publication of Observationes Anatomicae, a detailed description of anatomical aspects of the human body. He was the first to describe, among others, the following anatomical structures: cartilage corniculata (Santorini cartilage ) and larynx. According to him, the accessory ( extra ) pancreatic duct is ( accessory pancreatic duct; Santorinischer gear) named.
