Giovanni Francesco Caroto

Giovanni Francesco Caroto (* 1480 in Verona, † 1555 ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Caroto was a student of the liberals of Verona and Andrea Mantegna, whose style is certain his early works. Since 1508 again won the painting of the Veronese school the upper hand with him to make later gradually that of Giulio Romano and the Venetians place.

His oil paintings are numerous, especially represented in the galleries of Verona, Modena and Mantua.

As a fresco painter, he made the best in the cycle from the Tobias legend in the Spolocrini chapel to Chiesa di Santa Eufemia in Verona.
