Giovanni Galli

Galli 2011

Giovanni Galli ( born April 29, 1958 in Pisa, Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer. He played on the position of the goalkeeper.

Career

Galli began his career with the 1977/ 78 Serie A with Fiorentina. In Florence, he played a total of nine seasons for the club in a relatively unsuccessful era. Overall, he was employed at Fiorentina 259 times.

For the 1986/87 season moved Galli to AC Milan, where he scored the biggest success of his career in the team Arrigo Sacchi damaligem exception. Already in the following season he was Italian champion with Milan and won the Italian Super Cup. The highlight was the following 1988/89 season in which he won the Italian Super Cup, the European Champions Cup, the European Supercup and the Intercontinental Cup with the club in just one season. In the following season, his last at Milan, followed once again winning the European Cup and the World Cup.

Then moved Giovanni Galli for season 1990 /91 SSC Napoli, where he still again in the same season under Alberto Bigonville won the Supercoppa Italiana ( 5-1 against Juventus Turin). Galli remained two more, relatively unsuccessful seasons at Napoli. The 1993/94 season then saw him in Torino Calcio, but the very next year he moved to Parma for two seasons, but where he could not get a more regular place under behind Luca Bucci was substitute goalkeeper. At the finals won the UEFA Cup in 1994/95 he was not actively involved and in the 1995/96 season he was loaned to Lucchese in the B series. There ended at the end of the season and his career.

Galli was used 19 times in the Italian national team. He belonged to the world champion squad Enzo Bearzots 1982, but was not at the World Cup for use. Before and during the 1986 World Cup, he delivered himself in a bitter power struggle for the position of first goalkeeper Franco Tancredi. This power struggle was, in the opinion of the former, then the third Italian international goalkeeper Walter Zenga in no small Azzurra weaken the Squadra and contribute to their premature retirement.

His son Niccolò ( b. 1983 ) was also football player, he came in 2001 in a traffic accident at the age of 17 years died.
