Giovanni Maria Bononcini

Giovanni Maria Bononcini ( baptized September 23, 1642 in Montecorone, Modena, † November 18, 1678 in Modena ) was an Italian violinist and composer.

Life

His education was Bononcini most likely by Marco Uccellini. In the preface to his textbook " Musico Prattico " Bononcini mentioned that he has (1635 - after 1702) studied counterpoint with Padre Agostino Bendinelli. He initially worked as a conductor in the churches of San Giovanni in Monte and San Petronio in Bologna and was a member of the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica. Bononcini in 1671 followed the call to Modena, where he worked until his death as Director of Music at first as Hofviolinist the Dowager Duchess Laura d' Este and after 1674.
