Giovanni Maria Galli da Bibiena

Giovanni Maria Galli da Bibbiena (* 1625 in Bologna, † June 21, 1665 in Bologna ) was an Italian fresco painter, Table painter and stage decorator.

Giovanni Maria was the father of Ferdinando and Francesco Galli da Bibbiena and thus the progenitor of the Galli da Bibbiena family. Its members worked as a theater architect and stage decorators to the most influential courts of Europe. Giovanni Maria was a student of Francesco Albani and created as his assistant frescoes and altarpieces. He worked mainly in Bologna and is said to have designed first stage decorations.
