Giovanni Maria Trabaci

Giovanni Maria Trabaci (* 1575 in Montepeloso, Province of Matera, † December 31, 1647 in Naples) was an Italian composer.

Life and work

Giovanni Maria Trabaci was a pupil of Jean de Macque (around 1550-1614 ), joined in 1594 as a singer in the chapel of the church of Santa Casa Annunziata in Naples and was also organist at the Oratorio dei Filippini. In 1601 he became organist and in 1614 Kapellmeister of the Royal Chapel of the court of Naples. Trabaci applicable in the history of Italian organ music of the early 17th century as a representative of the typical Neapolitan canzone. He published two volumes, among other works, which were originally designed for keyboard instruments, but can make music in different instrumentations. His passions are one of the 17th century unusually independent contribution to this genre in its Latin form.

  • Passions according to the four Evangelists (Naples 1634), this Evangelist 3-part, the other people unanimously choral, Turba 4-part to be doubled with instruments ad libitum.
