Giovanni Matteo Contarini
Giovanni Matteo Contarini († 1507) was a Venetian cartographer.
Contarini put together a famous world map, which was stung by the Florentine engraver Francesco Rosselli 1506. The Contarini - Rosselli map of the world is the oldest surviving, produced by a pressure industrial process map, on the part of the American continent is shown. The only known copy of the map is preserved in the British Library.
Family
Giovanni Matteo Contarini was a member of the Venetian patrician family of the Contarini. He was the second son of Marco Contarini di Ruggero in the parish of San Cassan (San Cassiano ).
