Giovanni Urbani

Giovanni Cardinal Urbani ( born March 26 1900 in Venice, Italy, † September 17, 1969 ibid ) was Archbishop and Patriarch of Venice.

Life

Giovanni Urbani studied the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy at the University of Venice. He received on 24 September 1922, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was pastor until 1945 in Venice. In addition, he taught at the patriarchal seminary. 1936 awarded him Pope Pius XII. the title of a secret chamberlain of His Holiness. 1946 Giovanni Urbani took the task of the secretary and the National Council of Italian Catholic Action.

In 1946 he received the appointment as Titular Bishop of Axomis and Auxiliary Bishop in Venice. Adeodato Cardinal Giovanni Piazza donated to him on 8 December 1946, the episcopal ordination. On November 27, 1948, he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Sardes. In 1955, Giovanni Urbani Bishop of Verona with the personal title of archbishop, in November 1958 Archbishop and Patriarch of Venice. In December of the same year Pope John XXIII took him. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Prisca in the College of Cardinals. In 1962, the titular church of San Marco, he was assigned. Giovanni Urbani died on September 17, 1969 in Venice, and was buried in St. Mark's Basilica.
