Giovanni Volpi

Conte Giovanni Volpi di Misurata ( born May 9, 1938 in Venice) has the automobile racing team Scuderia Serenissima founded and financed.

At the age of ten years, Volpi inherited from his father Giuseppe Volpi a large fortune. As a car enthusiast young man he founded in the second half of the 1950s, his own racing team, which initially started mainly Ferrari cars. He was one of the best customers of Enzo Ferrari. The sporting activities were limited to regional events in Italy. He soon the performance of production vehicles, however, was no longer sufficient.

He persuaded the racing Ferrari chief developer Giotto Bizzarrini to develop a faster car for him. Since the management team was at odds vigorously at the same time with Ferrari Enzo Ferrari and decided to make himself under the name of Automobili Turismo e Sport ( ATS) independently, he supported their business venture.
