Girma Wolde-Giorgis

Girma Wolde-Giorgis ( Oromo: Girmaa Walda Giyorgis Luchaa; , in äthiop font: ግርማ ወልደ ጊዮርጊስ; * December 1924 in Addis Ababa. ) Was from October 2001 to October 2013 President of Ethiopia. The president has largely ceremonial duties in Ethiopia.

Life

Girma Wolde-Giorgis, who hails from the Oromo ethnic group, suggested by his air traffic controller training a military career and ended 1944, the Genet Military School as a second lieutenant. In 1956 he became Director General of Civil Aviation in Ethiopia and board member of the Ethiopian airline. In 1960 he was first elected to Parliament, until he was finally elected on 8 October 2001 surprisingly president. He belongs to the ruling EPRDF coalition since 1991.

On 9 October 2007 he was re-elected for a second six -year term. He was first elected by the First Chamber, the House of Parliament, then through the lower house, the People's House of Representatives with 430 votes in favor, 88 votes against and 11 abstentions.

On October 7, 2013 as the successor to his Mulatu Teschome was chosen.
