Girolamo Genga

Girolamo Genga ( pron. dschenga ) (* around 1476 in Urbino; † 11 August or July 11, 1551 in Urbino), was an Italian painter, architect and sculptor.

Life

Genga studied with Luca Signorelli and Perugino, painted with Timoteo Vite in Urbino in the chapel of San Martino of the episcopal palace and then went to Rome, where he worked for the church of Santa Caterina da Siena painted a Resurrection and a lot of ancient with the drawing and measuring buildings occupied what he left behind a handwritten work.

Recalled by the Duke Francesco Maria to Urbino, he followed this up later in exile in Cesena, where, among other things, the board of God the Father with Mary and the four Fathers of the Church was built ( now in the Brera at Milan ). Built After the return of the Duke of Urbino by Genga for him on the mountain dell'Imperiale a palace. He also provided the plans for the church of San Giovanni Battista in Pesaro, for Zoccolantenkloster in Monte Berico and the Bishop's Palace in Senigallia. Of works of sculpture Zinner made for the castle dell'Imperiale an angel, and for the Duke of Urbino and the Bishop of Senigallia, the models for drinking harnesses.

His son Bartolommeo Genga was also a painter, architect and sculptor. His students included Baldassare Lanci.
