Gisbert Flüggen

Flüggen Gisbert ( born February 9, 1811 in Cologne, † September 3, 1859 in Munich) was a German painter.

Gisbert Flüggen learned in a Galanteriewarenfabrik in Dusseldorf. Later he turned to the arts and began training in 1833 in Munich. Since 1835, he had his permanent residence there.

His paintings are characterized by technical perfection, grouping and happy life full expression. In the choice of fabrics is reminiscent of Hogarth and Wilkie. As a genre painter he loved like these, the description of the contrasts and conflicts of social life.

Father of Joseph Flüggen, (1842-1906), a painter.
