Giuditta Grisi

Giuditta Grisi ( born July 28, 1805 in Milan, † May 1, 1840 in Robecco d' Oglio ) was a famous Italian opera singer (mezzo- soprano).

She came from a musically talented family. Her mother, as well as her aunt Giuseppina Grassini (1773-1850), and especially her sister Giulia Grisi were famous singers. Carlotta Grisi Her cousin was one of the greatest ballerinas of the Romantic period. Like her sister, Giulia Grisi she was trained at the Conservatory in Milan. She made her debut in Vienna in 1823, but laying the foundation for their world renown later in Venice, after she had sung in Bellini's I Capuleti ei Montecchi ( Romeo and Juliet) the written for her Romeo. After brilliant successes particularly in Paris, she retired from the stage in 1833 and married the Count Barni.
