Giulio Bevilacqua

Giulio Cardinal Bevilacqua ( born November 14, 1881 in Isola della Scala, Verona, Italy, † May 6, 1965 in Brescia ) was a Roman Catholic priest.

Life

Bevilacqua was a personal friend of Pope Paul VI. from his student days at the University of Brescia. He was appointed Titular Archbishop of Gaudiaba and auxiliary bishop in Brescia on 15 February 1965. He received his episcopal consecration on 18 February 1965, the Bishop of Brescia, Luigi Morstabilini.

Four days later, he took the Pope a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Girolamo della Carita to the College of Cardinals. Bevilacqua received permission to continue as a simple priest in Sant'Antonio della Pace to work in Brescia, where he practiced a modern pastoral with strong references to the liturgical movement for decades.

Giulio Bevilacqua died just two months after his appointment as cardinal.
