Giuseppe Abbati

Giuseppe Abbati ( born January 13, 1836 in Naples, † February 21, 1868 in Florence) was an Italian painter.

He was a member of the group of macchiaioli. His main works are landscape paintings and genre paintings. Many of these pictures were taken in the open air.

Life

Born in Naples in 1836 son of the painter Vincenzo Abbati moved to Florence in 1846 to Venice, where he initially under the guidance of his father, then, again developed in Florence, in 1850 at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno his artistic style with his family in 1842.

In 1858 the family returned to Naples, where Giuseppe exhibited the following year at the Royal Museum. The year 1860 saw him as a participant in the train of a thousand. At the end of the year he moved again to Florence and became a member of the artistic circle at the Caffè Michelangelo.

In 1866 he participated in the Third Italian War of Independence, was captured at the Battle of Custoza and interned in Croatia. In December 1866 he returned to Florence, where he died in 1868 at the consequences of a dog bite. He is buried in the cemetery Cimitero delle Porte Sante.
