Giuseppe Baldrighi

Giuseppe Baldrighi (* August 12 1722 in Stradella at Pavia; † January 12, 1803 in Parma) was an Italian painter of the Rococo belonged to the Duchy of Parma at the leading artists of his time.

Life

About 1730 moved with his family to Giuseppe Baldrighi Naples and then to Florence, where he went to study with Vincenzo Meucci. In 1750, he was one of the honorary members of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna ( Accademia Clementina ), where he was recognized for its innovation in the field of miniature painting by Duke Philip of Parma.

From 1752 to 1756 Baldrighi held in Paris on behalf of the Duke. At the studio of François Boucher, but also influenced by the works of Jean -Baptiste Oudry, he gained a lot of experience, which, reflected in a series of large heads of animals, which he painted in the style of Oudry during this period. This consists of four parts: the head of a tiger, a wolf, an eagle and a lion's head.

End of June 1756, he presented his painting of Charity romana / Charité romaine at the Académie Royale, which enabled him to be admitted as a member of the Academy. In the same year Baldrighi, returned also because of health problems, according to Parma, where he received the title of court painter to the Duke of Parma, with the right to operate as a master of painting his own studio. During his further career, he focused almost exclusively on portraiture and made ​​several portraits of prominent figures, including the Duke of Parma and his family. Baldrighis house in Parma meeting was of scholars and at the same time to Parma developed by Duke Philip, the son of King Philip V of Spain, and his wife, Elizabeth of Parma, daughter of Louis XV. of France, into a major European city of culture and enlightenment.

Around 1760 Baldrighi was appointed alongside Pietro Melchiorre Ferrari and Giuseppe Peroni to teach at the Academy founded by Duke Philip of Parma. In 1772 he was appointed professor.

Giuseppe Baldrighi died in 1803 at the age of eighty years in Parma and was buried in the Church of the Holy Trinity.
