Giuseppe Caprio

Cardinal Giuseppe Caprio (* November 15, 1914 in Lapio, province of Avellino, Italy, † October 15, 2005 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat and later became a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Giuseppe Caprio studied in Rome, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology and received on 17 December 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further studies, he worked in years 1940-1947 in the Vatican Secretariat of State. From 1947 to 1951 he was secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in China, where the Communist regime placed him under arrest for three months and finally auswies. In the years 1951-1954 he worked at the Nunciature in Belgium from 1954 to 1959, he was Apostolic Visitor and head of the Apostolic Delegation in South Vietnam. From 1959 to 1961 he made ​​diplomatic work in Taiwan.

Giuseppe Caprio took part in the Second Vatican Council and in 1967 Pro-Nuncio in India. From 1969, he held various leadership roles in the administration of the Vatican.

In 1981, he became president of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See.

At the conclave in 2005 after the death of Pope John Paul II, he did not participate because he had the age of 80 years already passed.
