Giuseppe Ros

Giuseppe Ros ( born September 22, 1942 in Santa Maria di Piave, Italy ) is an Italian former heavyweight boxer.

Amateur

Ros was a military world champion in 1963 and 1964 and in the same year he also won the Italian championship in the heavyweight division. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, he reached the bronze medal in this weight class, where he the European champion from 1963 Josef Němec, Czechoslovakia ( 4-1 ) struck during the tournament and in the semifinals to Hans Huber, Germany (4:1), failed.

Professional

In 1965 he turned professional and won against his first fourteen fights. The title of the Italian heavyweight champion, he was in May 1970 against his amateur rival Dante Cane, an Italian Amateur champion from 1961 to 1963 and EM- third in 1963 to fight for, but already in November Ros lost the title back to Piermario Baruzzi. In April 1971, he struck Baruzzi KO and was again champion. Cane, however, struck him in October and took the title back. March 1972 Ros won the title again, this time by defeating Armando Zanini. Towards the later film actor Joe Bugner from Great Britain, who, among others, participated in some Bud Spencer movies, boxed Ros in October 1973 by the European Heavyweight Championship. Bugner won on home soil on points.

The last fourteen fights after trying to become European champions were not very successful. Ros won only five fights, two ended in a draw, including the struggle for Italian Heavyweight Championship in July 1974, opponents were again Dante Cane. The remaining battles lost Ros, with two more tries to become Italian champion failed.
