Giuseppe Sensi

Giuseppe Maria Cardinal Sensi ( born May 27, 1907 in Cosenza, Italy, † July 26, 2001 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat.

Life

Giuseppe Maria Sensi studied in Cosenza and at various universities of Rome, the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. He earned his doctorate in theology and a doctorate of canon law. The sacrament of Holy Orders he received on 21 December 1929. According to further studies, he worked from 1932 for the Council Congregation of the Curia. He subsequently joined the diplomatic service of the Vatican and was from 1934 to 1938 secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Romania. From 1938 to 1946, he provided the same task at the Apostolic Nunciature in Switzerland. In the years 1946 to 1949 he worked as a consultant to the Apostolic Nunciature in Belgium and Czechoslovakia. From 1949 to 1953 he worked in the Vatican Secretariat of State in the Department for the needs of international Catholic organizations.

From 1953 to 1956 was Giuseppe Maria Sensi Permanent Observer of the Holy See to UNESCO. 1955 Pope Pius XII appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Sardis, the Apostolic Nuncio to Costa Rica. The bishop ordained Giuseppe Maria Sensi by Valerio Cardinal Valeri. From 1957 to 1962 he served as Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Palestine, 1962, he was Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland. In the years 1962 to 1965, he took part in the Second Vatican Council, 1967, he was Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal. Pope Paul VI. took Giuseppe Maria Sensi on 24 May 1976 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santi Biagio e Carlo ai Catinari in the College of Cardinals to. Cardinal Sensi took in August and October 1978 part in the conclave. In 1987 he was elevated to Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria degli Apostoli Regina.

Giuseppe Maria Cardinal Sensi died on 26 July 2001 in Rome and was buried in Cosenza in the chapel of his family in the cemetery " Colle Mussano ".
