Style

In Tales of the Macabre, the music has been described previously Witchfynde albums as an obscure version of Black Sabbath in connection with the early works of Judas Priest. In their lyrics the band related to the occult and satanic themes before the current as a black metal band Venom pioneers did. How many bands of the early NWOBHM joined the band's hard rock with punk elements. In contrast to the simultaneously active Venom and Angel Witch, the band has taken but also borrowing from the progressive rock.

Reception

At the time of publication, the album was recorded mixed. Many reviewers prepared a connection to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne and criticized the artificial Satanism and the occult, which was worn on the album to show. Other reviewers, such as Jaspers and Oliviers in her book Encyclopedia of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, and Matthias Mader ( New Wave of British Heavy Metal Vol 2) praised the album, however, because of the mix of " short, aggressive Metal tracks ( ... ) and worn, almost uncanny experimental songs ".

Lars Ulrich of Metallica introduced in 1990 NWOBHM '79 Revisited together the sampler, on which the title Leaving Nadir is included. Although the band took up occult themes before Venom and Bathory, and as this represented a goat head and a pentagram on the cover of her debut album, she was for the part of the later Black Metal scene attached no importance.
