Give Me Liberty

Give Me Liberty is a four-part comic book mini-series, developed and written by Frank Miller and drawn by Dave Gibbons. In Germany, the series was released in Carlsen Verlag under the title Liberty and Panini Comics under the title The life and work of Martha Washington in the 21st Century, Volume 1 An American Dream.

Content

The story, a mix of action and political satire, depicts the life of the main character Martha Washington, an African-American woman in a dystopian North America of the near future. The first volume begins with the birth of Martha and initially describes her youth in the Chicago housing project " Cabrini Green". As the story progresses she committed as a member of a paramilitary combat unit interventions in various trouble spots of the world. As a celebrated war heroine she gets into political and economic intrigue and ultimately decides the fate of the United States.

Awards

The series won the 1991 Eisner Award ( also Will Eisner Comic Industry Award ), one of the most important American Awards for comic creators.
