Gjesdal is a commune in the Norwegian Rogaland. The municipality is bordered to the northwest by the municipality Sandnes, to the north by the municipality Forsand, on the east by the municipality Sirdal in Vest -Agder on the south, Bjerkreim and to the west by Time. The local center in Ålgård is located on the E39, 15 km from Sandnes. Approximately 75 % of the inhabitants of the municipality live in Ålgård. 35% of the inhabitants of the municipality are under 18 years old, so that the municipality has the youngest population in Norway. The Gjesdal in the late 19th century by Ole Nielsen founded casino turned out to be several decades as a center of attraction especially of the Russian nobility.

Traffic

Ålgård was the terminus of the railway line Ganddal - Ålgård. The passenger has already been set in 1955.
