Gjuro Baglivi

Giorgio Baglivi ( born September 8, 1668 Dubrovnik, † June 15, 1707 in Rome) was a medical doctor.

Giorgio Baglivi was probably born in present-day Dubrovnik, which was then called Ragusa. Some authors are of the opinion, his birthplace was the place Ragusa in Sicily. His birth name was Duro Armeno, which could indicate as Armenians on their ethnic origin. The name Giorgio Baglivi he got at the age of 15 years when he was adopted by the Italian physician Pietro Angelo Baglivi ( 1624-1704 ).

Baglivi was from 1691 Marcello Malpighi assistant in Bologna and Rome. In 1695 he was papal Physikus and in 1696 professor of anatomy at the University La Sapienza in Rome. In 1697 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society.

Baglivi conducted microscopic analyzes of muscle and body fluids such as blood, bile, lymph and saliva.

After Baglivi, is named in Sassia in Rome, where Baglivi worked as a physician and researcher in the Sala Baglivi Santo Spirito.
