Glandorf is a village ( Village ) in Putnam County, Ohio, United States. At the 2000 census, the village had 919 inhabitants.

Geography

Glandorf is about 2.5 miles ( 4 km) away to the west of the county seat Ottawa ( Ohio) and is thus quite centrally located in Putnam County, about 97 miles ( 156 km) north of Dayton and about 69 miles (111 km) southwest of Toledo and Lake Erie Station.

Neighboring villages are of Glandorf Ottawa, Kalida, Pine Ville, Miller City and Leipsic.

History

The originating from Glandorf Osnabrück in Lower Saxony clergy and high school teacher Johann Wilhelm Horstmann embarked on September 7, 1833 six other Glandorfer men on the passenger ship Columbus in Amsterdam and arrived in New York on November 6, 1833. In December of that year he bought land in Putnam County, Ohio, and founded New - Glandorf. Included Johann F. Kahle, William Gülker, Christian Strope, F. wiping man, Friedrich Bredeick and Mathias and Frederick Bockrath this group. Kahle bought land in Greensburg, which is about five miles west of Glandorf at today's Road J and called it Mary Kamp. The country, which earned Professor Horstmann, Glandorf was called. The Order was, however, the monastery again and has its principal place of business in Maria Stein ( Ohio) and Dayton (Ohio ).

The neighboring Miller City owes its existence to some families from Glandorf (Ohio ), who settled there in 1882. Named the place was named after the settlers Nicholas Miller ( Müller).

Traffic

Glandorf is located on State Route 694 toward the Ottawa, Ohio on U.S. Route 224 leads. The nearest highways are in the south of U.S. Highway 30 and Interstate 75 about six miles ( 9 km) east of Glandorf is the Putnam County Airport.

Education and Culture

At state educational institutions are two primary schools, the Ottawa - Glandorf High School and the Putnam County District Library is available in the neighboring Ottawa. Of the 51 churches of the Putnam County is home to the Catholic Church, St John's the Baptist in Glandorf.
