Glanum Dam

The Glanum Dam was a Roman arch dam in Glanum near present-day Saint- Remy- de -Provence in Provence (France). Built in the 1st century BC, the dam is considered the oldest of its type.

Located in the Vallon de Baume dam dammed the water with an arched against the flow direction arched design that was very large with a height of approximately 14.7 meters, 3.9 meters at the wall base and 3 meters on top of the wall. The radius of the crown region 23.8 meters long wall arch was 28.6 meters. The aperture angle of the sheet was 73 °. The wall was between them with a filling of two parts. The accumulated water was used to supply water to the nearby town of Glanum.

Was discovered the plant in 1763 from Esprit Calvet. Recent studies show that the dam was built of ashlar location bracketed and sealed watertight. The submissions for the wall heads were cut into the rock. 1891 was above the Roman construction and densely planted a new dam. Exists only a drawing of the old dam.
