History

Since closure of the old VSB route Weesen - Naefels in 1918, the regional trains operated on the left bank Seebahn to brick bridge held up by Naefels. This was no more direct connection from the Glarus to Zurich.

The implementation of the " Glarus Dream " is a direct train to Zurich was taken from the Glarus government, the " Commuter Club " and the SBB as one of the individual projects of the concept train attack in 2000 and relocated to the new timetable as at 12 December 2004. The Zugslage is largely dictated by the route gap that exists by the two EC- hourly connections to Vienna. One reason for the introduction in 2004 was the absence of Umsteigehalts the IC / EC trains in brick bridge, whereby the hourly connection was lost. Because shifted the EC trains at the timetable change on 12 December 2009, at an hour to the peak hours of the Glarus Sprinters have moved.

It provided an hourly service, which had to be but dropped again due to financial problems of the Canton of Glarus and technical problems on the part of the SBB.

The " GlarnerSprinter " serves mainly Wegpendlern who drive from the Canton of Glarus in the greater Zurich area. Conversely, the Canton of Glarus hoped for a revival of weekend tourism in snow sports enthusiasts, hikers and climbers from the Zurich region, which is a direct train to the Glarus Grosstal available.

As the only RegioExpress in Switzerland was the " GlarnerSprinter " morning and evening served by a " Railbar » ( minibar). This service has been abandoned for lack of demand in 2006.

As part of the fourth part of the supplement S -Bahn Zurich the long-awaited hour is to be implemented and at the same time to keep the GlarnerSprinter new in Wädenswil and laughter. At the same time GlarnerSprinter is the S25 S-Bahn Zurich and is integrally operated with DPZ double-deck trains.
