Glascock County, Georgia

The Glascock County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. Administrative office ( County Seat), Gibson is named after Judge William Gibson, a former colonel in the Confederate Army.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Georgia and to the east is about 70 miles from South Carolina. It has an area of 374 square kilometers, of which a square kilometer of water is. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jefferson County, Washington County, Hancock County and Warren County.

History

Glascock County was formed on December 19, 1857. It was named after Thomas Glascock, a brigadier general in the First Seminole War and a member of the U.S. Congress.

In Glascock County many historic buildings have been preserved, which were also included in the national database of historic places. 23.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.7 percent between 18 to 24, 26.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 18.2 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 29,743, and the median income for a family $ 36,629. Males had a median income of $ 32,896, women $ 22,500. The per capita income was $ 14,185. 9.4 percent of families and 17.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
