Glassine

Glassine is a very thin, translucent, air-and water-impermeable transparent paper. In papermaking, it passes through the calender after the drying. There, the paper is pressed by rollers, thereby causing alignment, and smoothing of the paper fibers. The paper is used as an inexpensive weighing paper in the laboratory and especially release paper ( in books, stamp albums and also in the food industry, such as in the packaging of puff pastry ).

As well as glassine backing paper for self-adhesive labels is called, which is provided with a non-stick layer.
